Williams Advanced Engineering are currently recruiting for a Financial Controller reporting to the Finance Director. This is a senior role with responsibility for activities such as day-to-day accounting, statutory reporting, tax, treasury and insurance for Williams Advanced Engineering and its wholly owned subsidiaries. This is a newly created position as the result of new shareholders being introduced to the business, and this role is critical to maintaining and improving financial controls as we continue to grow rapidly.
The successful individual will lead a small team of Finance professionals, covering day-to-day transactional and monthly accounting activities. They will provide technical guidance in accounting and tax matters, seeking external guidance where appropriate. They will also be responsible for leading statutory accounts preparation and will be the main point of contact with auditors.
Key activities also include proactive management of the business wide risk management agenda, continuous improvement activities and involvement in new strategic growth opportunities.
There will be a requirement to support, and at times deputise for, the Finance Director in managing external stakeholder relationships. These include shareholders, banks and other service providers.
The successful individual will have a strong academic background at degree level alongside previous experience in industry and management of teams. A qualified accountant with exposure to project revenue recognition, production accounting and stock is essential. (‘Big Four’ experience an advantage but not essential.)
To be successful in the role you will have the ability to identify, manage and influence stakeholders effectively along with being committed to delivering innovation and improvement within Finance, often finding ways to work around system limitations.
You will have excellent communication skills, especially the ability to communicate complex financial concepts to non-Finance colleague and will be content to work autonomously taking ownership for Finance issues. The ability to zoom in and out of detail as necessary – understanding all areas of the spectrum from accounting level detail to total company level is essential.
